When we walked into this bathroom, it had the usual builder‑grade fiberglass shower and a flimsy sliding door that rattled every time you touched it. Now? It’s a whole different animal.
We tore out the fiberglass, junked the cheap glass, and rebuilt the entire space from the studs out. Floor‑to‑ceiling 2×2 tile, full Schluter waterproofing behind every surface, a hand‑set river stone shower pan, and a clean, functional shower niche that actually fits real‑world products instead of travel‑size bottles.

We just wrapped up a major home addition—and this one completely transformed the property.
The old 18' x 12' elevated deck was removed and replaced with a 4‑season elevated porch built to true engineered standards. This new space features vinyl siding, heated floors, full foam insulation, tongue‑and‑groove ceilings and walls, a large overhang, and vinyl/PVC exterior trim for long‑term durability.
We installed North Star double‑hung windows and a North Star sliding door to bring in natural light and year‑round comfort.
Outside, we built a Trex 14' x 18' deck with a large staircase, plus a 12' x 12' hot‑tub‑rated deck that’s extremely robust and engineered to handle serious load.
The entire project was designed and approved by engineers, built solid, and built to last.

We just wrapped up a full deck refresh on a 14'x23' platform deck that was long overdue for help. The old wood decking was shot—so we tore it out and rebuilt it the right way.
This upgrade features Deckorators Summit Boulder composite deck boards and Trex Select black aluminum railing for a clean, sharp finish that’ll hold up for years. The stairs were fully rebuilt, and we added new blocking and butyl tape throughout the frame to extend the life of the structure.

After we returned from vacation and upon turning the main water valve back on, a sharp squealing noise started immediately. The source was a small, inexpensive water sensor placed next to our water heater. The heater had failed while we were away, and once water pressure was restored, the sensor alarmed and blew, signaling active water intrusion exactly as intended.
A few thoughts to consider…
Shutting off water during travel prevents pressure from feeding a leak, which can turn a small failure into a major flood.

Composite decking is an excellent material, however it has specific performance characteristics that change significantly in cold weather. For that reason, KHS generally chooses not to build composite decks during periods of sustained low temperatures unless a customer specifically requests it. This isn’t about convenience—it’s about protecting the integrity of the finished product and ensuring it meets the standard our customers expect.
Key Reasons To Avoid Cold‑Weather Composite Installation:
-Material brittleness increases, leading to a higher risk of chipping, cracking, or rough cuts.
-Board expansion and contraction become harder to predict, making proper spacing more difficult to achieve.
Installation specifications require:
1 mm gap when temperatures are above 80°F
3 mm gap when temperatures are between 40°F and 77°F
6 mm gap when temperatures are below 40°F
Insufficient spacing can lead to board warping, heaving, twisting, or long‑term structural distortion.
-Fasteners perform inconsistently in cold composite, which can compromise long‑term hold and stability.
-Human fatigue increases in cold conditions, overall fit and finish can suffer, as fine‑detail craftsmanship is harder to execute when materials and conditions are working against you.
-Long‑term performance may be reduced, as cold‑weather installation can introduce small imperfections that grow over time.

Composite decking can fail—and we’ve seen it firsthand.
KHS recently rebuilt a composite deck that was constructed in 2014 that deteriorated prematurely due to poor installation methods and low quality composite materials. For the rebuild, our customer chose wood decking with hidden fasteners to reduce upfront costs and to keep future maintenance demands reduced, a quality composite railing.

KHS recently performed a major repair to a home. The customer noticed a small water stain on the interior wall below a deck. KHS investigated and found significant water intrusion, rotted wood and black ants that further destroyed the structure.
